The College Students’ Complete Guide To Mindanao Scholarships

Are you a student studying in Mindanao? If you are looking for ways to fund your education, here’s good news for you: Each university in the region provides different scholarship programs to support students! These scholarships are either merit-based (includes a variety of talents and interests: academic, athletic, artistic, etc.) or need-based (awarded based on the financial need of the student).

But did you know that aside from the financial aids provided by the schools, you can also apply for scholarships offered by government agencies, foundations, and private corporations? Here, we’ve prepared you a list of Mindanao scholarships:

 

Scholarships available in different parts of Mindanao

DOST-Science and Technology (S&T) Scholarship

The Department of Science and Technology has the S&T Undergraduate Scholarship Program. This scholarship is dedicated to talented young Filipinos who are planning to pursue careers in science and technology.

Scholarship privileges include tuition and miscellaneous fees, book allowance, uniform allowance, group health and accident insurance, transportation allowance (for students who are studying outside of their home province), monthly living allowance, and graduation clothing allowance.

To qualify for this Mindanao scholarship, applicants must be:

  • A member of the top five percent (5%) of the Non-STEM strand senior high school graduating class; or
  • A member of the STEM strand senior high school graduating class. For the complete list of requirements, students may visit DOST-SEI scholarship section.

 

Scholarships in Zamboanga Peninsula

SM Foundation Scholarship Program

The SM Foundation Scholarship Program is awarded to graduating Grade 12 students in Zamboanga who are planning to pursue courses in accountancy, computer science, engineering and education.

Students applying for this Mindanao scholarship should have at least a General Weighted Average (GWA) of  88%; And the applicant’s household income should not exceed Php 150,000 per year. Students may email education@sm-foundation.org or call 552-7013.

Scholarships in Northern Mindanao

CHED Student Financial Assistance Programs (StuFAPs)

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) offers the StuFAPs to incoming college students. Qualified beneficiaries shall receive Php 6,000 to Php 15,000 worth of financial assistance every semester.

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be currently enrolled in any CHED priority courses; And the student’s family income must not exceed Php 300,000 per year. Cagayan De Oro City Hall Scholarship

The City government of Cagayan De Oro is currently looking for qualified students for the CDO scholarship. The program is open to incoming First Year college students for S.Y. 2019-2020.

For performance-based scholarships, students need to have a GWA of at least 85%. Meanwhile, students who are applying for need-based scholarships must have a GWA of at least 75%.

City Mayor’s Scholar – Iligan City

Iligan is one of the highly-urbanized cities in Northern Mindanao. The city offers various scholarships for the students. One of Iligan’s scholarship programs includes the City Mayor’s Scholar (CMS). CMS is open to the indigent youth of Iligan City whose family income is less than Php 120,000 per year. Students who are interested in applying for the scholarship program may visit the city’s official website to see the complete list of requirements.

Scholarships in Davao Region

Darmasiswa Scholarship Program

The Darmasiswa is a scholarship program offered to all students from foreign countries which have diplomatic relationship with Indonesia. Students will have a chance to study Indonesian language, arts, and culture in 71 universities in Indonesia under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Culture (MOEC).

The coverage of the scholarship includes a monthly stipend and settlement allowance. However, the international airfare to and from Indonesia shall not be covered by the MOEC.

Scholarship on Tertiary Education Program (STEP)

The City of Government of Davao is helping underprivileged students to have access to college education through the Scholarship on Tertiary Education Program (STEP). Scholarship applicants must be a resident of Davao City and belong to indigent or below-average income earning family, as pre-determined by the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO).

Financial Assistance for Lumad

Davao City is also giving financial assistance to its indigenous and indigent residents. The Financial Assistance for Lumad provides qualified beneficiaries with a Php 1,500 monthly educational stipend to support expenses on boarding, uniform or transportation. College students who are planning to apply for the scholarship must possess good scholastic records from the previous semesters.

Scholarships in South Cotabato, Cotabato Province, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City (SOCCSARGEN)

EduKAR scholarship program

The Edukasyon Alang sa mga Kabus nga Residente sa GenSan or EduKAR scholarship program is open to the indigent residents of General Santos City. The scholarship provides a Php 20,000 tuition fee and Php 2,000 monthly allowance to the qualified scholars. Interested students may visit the Alay sa Kabataang Generals Lahat ng Alaga at Talino (AKLAT) office or check their official Facebook page for more information.

Kabugwason Paglaum Scholarship

The Kabugwason Paglaum is a scholarship program established by the provincial government of South Cotabato. It provides various scholarships for undergraduate and post graduate courses (Medicine and Law), as well as short courses.

The scholarship is open to students who are any of the following:

  • Belong to an indigent family but have high scholastic records
  • Member of an Indigenous Cultural Community (ICC) with high scholastic records
  • A person with a disability  with high scholastic records
  • An awardee of any National competition representing the Province of South Cotabato

Students who will pass the scholarship will receive a Php 15,000 for tuition and miscellaneous fees, Php 3,000 monthly stipend, and book allowances for scholars taking their post graduate degrees.

Scholarships in CARAGA Region

Private Education Student Financial Assistance (PESFA)

PESFA is one of the TESDA scholarship programs offered in CARAGA region. The scholarship is open to students who are taking TVET courses with various financial assistance such as training fees, monthly allowances, and scholar’s book allowance.

Scholarships in Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM)

Agricultural Competitiveness Enhancement Fund – Grant-in-Aid in Higher Education Program (ACEF-GIAHEP)

ACEF-GIAHEP is open students who are pursuing degrees in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, veterinary medicine education and other related agricultural education programs. Under the scholarship, students will receive Php 10,000 for tuition and other school fees, Php 2,500 monthly stipend for regular semesters, and Php 1,000 book allowance.
