Do you want to be part of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in the future? Then joining the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) is one of the options you might want to consider. PMA is the military school of the AFP. Founded in 1936, PMA is currently located in Baguio City. To be a PMA cadet, you must pass the Philippine Military Academy Entrance Exam (PMAEE). Here are the important things you need to know about the PMAEE:
What is the PMAEE?
The PMAEE is the annual admission test of the Philippine Military Academy. The test is one of the initial steps in the selection process of aspiring PMA cadets.
What is the coverage of the PMAEE?
The PMAEE has a written exam part. If you are planning to take the test, you need to prepare for the following subject areas:
- Algebra
- Geometry
- English Grammar and Composition
- Reading and Comprehension
- Verbal/Numerical Reasoning
- Pattern Analysis
After you pass the PMAEE written exam, you will undergo a complete physical examination. This physical exam will test your ability to perform essential physical functions as a PMA cadet. Here are the minimum requirements for the Physical Fitness Test (PFT):

What are the medical disqualifications in the PMAEE?
Since the training in the PMA includes various physical activities, you need to be fit and healthy. Here are the grounds for medical disqualification in PMAEE that you need to know:

- Color blindness – classified into three main kinds: red-green color blindness, blue-yellow color blindness, and total color blindness (monochromacy)
- Communicable diseases – tuberculosis, leprosy, mumps, HIV/AIDS, influenza, malaria, and others
- Physical and cognitive disabilities – incomplete limbs, Down Syndrome, blindness, deaf/mute, and others
- Scoliosis
- Tattoos
What are the application requirements of the PMAEE?
To take the PMAEE, you must meet the following qualifications:
- Natural-born Filipino citizen
- Physically and mentally fit
- Good moral character
- Single and has never been married
- No administrative or criminal case
- High School graduate with at least 85% GPA above
- At least 5 feet in height (but not exceeding 6 feet and 4 inches) for both male and female applicants
- At least 17 years old but not a day older than 22 years old on the reporting date
Note:
Applicants who are currently in Grade 11 are not qualified to take the exam. Meanwhile, Grade 12 students who will graduate before June 1, 2020 may take PMAEE. If you have a GPA lower than 85%, you may still apply as a walk-in applicant. However, you will be listed on the secondary list of applicants and may take the exam depending on the available slots.
When is the PMAEE?
The PMA Entrance Examination happens every August or September every year. You can take the exam in more than 40 testing centers nationwide. PMA announces the start of the application process on the first week of April.
How to apply for the PMAEE?
You can apply for the PMAEE through online or mail application. For the online application, you need to prepare a PDF copy of the following:
- High school Form 137 or Form 138
- NSO Birth Certificate
For mail application, you need to print and fill out the PMA Cadetship Application Form. Then mail the form to:

What are the things should I bring during the PMA Entrance Exam day?
Here are the things that you need to bring during your exam day:
- High school Form 137 or Form 138
- Photocopy of your NSO Birth Certificate
- 2×2 ID picture
- Valid ID (preferably school ID or driver’s license)
- Two pencils (No. 2)
