Cebu is home to some of the best schools in the country. #realtalk

Aside from an island’s stretch of white sand beaches that are popular among tourists, Cebu is also a top choice for students looking for schools with quality education. Specifically, making headlines for its top-notch medical schools!

If you’re planning to pursue a medical degree in Cebu, then you might want to consider Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) in your list of prospect schools. Aside from the school’s name being a dead giveaway, this school’s reputation in the health sciences is definitely noteworthy. Who knows? Your road to becoming a doctor might be in Mandaue!

To save you the hassle, we took the initiative and did some research about CDU. Here are some quick facts you should know about the school!

1973

Established in 1973, this private university was formerly called the Cebu Doctors’ College (CDC) prior to its renaming in 2005. Fourteen years later, Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) is now recognized as one of the leading medical schools in the country, with a proven track record of board top-notchers and academic accreditations.

One of CDU’s noteworthy achievements includes being the first non-sectarian university in the Visayas to be granted an autonomous status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Not to mention, it’s the only private school to be elevated to university status even without having basic education curriculum. Does that speak highly of their academic excellence? (Yes, it does!)

10,000 Students

With almost five decades of academic presence, CDU has been producing competent graduates in the medical and healthcare field. At present, the university is home to around 10,000 white stallions (the school’s official nickname). Do you want to be part of this herd? *wink wink*

8 Colleges

CDU has gone a long way since its establishment in the early 1970s. Starting from the College of Nursing, one of the first nursing colleges in Cebu, the university’s curricular offerings have since been offered through its 8 equally awesome colleges.

From its pioneering course in BS Nursing to the in-demand BS Medical Technology today, we’re pretty sure you’ll find the right degree for you from the following colleges in CDU:

  • College of Arts and Sciences
  • College of Allied Medical Sciences
  • College of Dentistry
  • College of Medicine
  • College of Nursing
  • College of Optometry
  • College of Pharmacy
  • College of Rehabilitative Sciences

91.55% Passing Rate

When we said CDU has an excellent reputation in the medical and health sciences field, we weren’t kidding. And we’ve got evidence to prove it!

While it’s no longer news that CDU consistently ranks in the licensure exams, the university made history last year when magna cum laude graduate Louise Theunis bested 2,927 takers in the August 2018 Pharmacy Board Exam with a 91.55% score- making her the first top-notcher from the College of Pharmacy. Goals!

Aside from Theunis, 2018 was a big year for CDU with other alumni ranking in different boards. In fact, just this March 2019 at the Physician Licensure Exam, Wilma Dapog brought the school pride with her 10th place finish. CDU must be so proud!

Academic Year 2016-2017

In consistent pursuit of academic excellence, CDU opened its doors for its first-ever batch of Senior High School students for the school year 2016-2017. The university offers GAS, HUMSS, and STEM under the Academic Track, and Health Care Services for the Technical-Vocational Track. Take your pick!

If you’re looking for a hands-on, rigorous approach to SHS—what with the school’s signature expertise on all things medicine—then CDU’s a good choice! Thanks to its six affiliate hospitals under the CebuDoc Group of Hospitals, you can expect intensive training and exposure like no other. No wonder CDU students are job-ready after school!

12 Postgraduate Degrees

There’s always room for learning! And CDU’s got space for your professional development. Whether you’re planning to pursue a master’s or doctorate, you can find a program fit for your interest within the school’s 12 curricular offerings!

Currently, CDU offers 9 master’s degrees and 3 doctoral degrees. One of the 3 doctoral degrees, the Doctor of Philosophy in Organization Development program, is Level ll accredited by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU). Talk about quality!

13th University Run

Every school has their thing. University run is CDU’s. Every year, the school holds a charity race for its staff and students where all proceeds benefit the Run for Sight foundation: a non-profit organization that conducts feeding programs, medical missions, and livelihood projects.

This annual school event has been running for 13 years now, and has been one of the avenues for the CDU community to build the school spirit and healthy lifestyle, probably. Ready to run for a cause?

There are a lot of colleges and universities in Cebu worth considering. If these numbers about CDU interest you, then there’s more to the story. Do your research!

Whether it’s in choosing a course, a college, or a future career path, make sure to learn more about it and weigh your decisions carefully. That’s how you make sure you’re on the right track. You got this!
