If you’re a non-engineering student or someone who’s still figuring out which branch of engineering to study, these terms can be very confusing. The professions may all sound similar, but they are very different. They may all involve moving electricity around a circuit, but that’s where their similarities end! Here’s a quick comparison among the four professions:

What does an Electrical Engineer do?

Electronics and electrical engineers have different duties and responsibilities. Electrical Engineers (EE) deal mainly with the large-scale production and distribution of electrical power. Some examples of these tasks include designing, developing, and supervising the production of various equipment like electric motors, communication systems, and radars. EEs make sure that power flows through the different points of the equipment.

What does an Electronics Engineer do?

Electronics Engineers (ECE) focus on small electronic circuits. Electronics Engineers design internal components of electronic equipment like mobile phones, TV, and satellites. They make sure that these equipment perform their specific functions.

What does an Electronics Technician do?

Electronics Technicians (ECTs) are the ones who maintain, troubleshoot, or repair electronic equipment.

What does a Master Electrician do?

A Master Electrician is someone who repairs and maintains electrical systems in houses and other establishments. Master Electricians make sure that electrical systems are in good condition.

To be an Electrical Engineer, you need to have a degree in BS Electrical Engineering from a school recognized by the Philippine government. You also need to pass the Registered Electrical Engineers examination from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

What do I need to become a Master Electrician?
