10 Top Performing MedTech Schools in the Philippines this 2018

Medical Technology, or more popularly known as “MedTech,” is a college course that deals with using technology in diagnosing, treating, and preventing diseases. It teaches students how to use modern medical equipment to provide accurate laboratory results. Students also need to pass a board examination before becoming a Registered Medical Technologist (RMT).

There are many institutions all over the country that offer a MedTech course. If you are eyeing a career in this field, you should enroll in a school that can provide you relevant skills and knowledge.

Last March, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced the top performing schools based on the 2018 MedTech Board Examination list of board passers. These schools have made remarkable feats in the academic and medical field as seen by the number of passers and top-notchers they produced. Here are the 10 best performing MedTech schools in the country and why they deserve to be on the top of your list:

  1. ADVENTIST UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES – 81 examinees, 81 passers, 100% passing rate

The Adventist University of the Philippines in Cavite is one of the 7 medical schools run by the Seventh-day Adventists worldwide. AUP students rotate in leading health facilities in the region for a rich clinical exposure and experience. These facilities include the Adventist Medical Center Manila in Pasay City, Batangas Medical Center in Batangas City, and the Cavite Center for Mental Health in Trece Martires, Cavite.

 

  1. CAGAYAN STATE UNIVERSITY – 59 examinees, 59 passers, 100% passing rate

Cagayan State University’s College of Medicine is one of the leading medical schools in the country. Its Andrews campus boasts a 2-storey laboratory building.  Meanwhile, the Central Analytical and Biotechnical laboratory is capable of doing DNA barcoding and molecular biology research applications.

 

  1. SAINT LOUIS UNIVERSITY – 301 examinees, 299 passers, 99.34% passing rate

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) designated this university as a Zonal Research Center in Region 1 and CAR. The school also ranked 201+ in the 2010 QS Asian University Ranking.

 

  1. FAR EASTERN UNIVERSITY-MANILA – 159 examinees, 155 passers, 97.48% passing rate

FEU’s Medical Technology has a Level I accreditation from the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA). MedTech students are exposed to six months of laboratory training with rotational duties in specializations such as Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Immunology & Serology, and Histopathologic/Cytologic Techniques.

 

  1. UNIVERSITY OF BAGUIO – 78 examinees, 76 passers, 97.44% passing rate

Throughout the years, University of Baguio MedTech students have made a name in the field by winning various competitions organized by medical organizations such as the  Philippine Association of Medical Technolo­gists (PAMET)1. Moreover, the university’s other programs are recognized as a Center of Excellence and Center of Development by CHED.

 

  1. OUR LADY OF FATIMA UNIVERSITY – ANTIPOLO CITY – 57 examinees, 51 passers, 89.47% passing rate

Since its establishment, Our Lady of Fatima University has been widely known for its high performances in medical board examinations in nursing, physician, physical therapy, psychometrician, and medical technology. Established in 2000, the college has already produced a number of board topnotchers. It is also an active member of the Philippine Association of Schools of Medical Technology and Public Health, Inc. (PASMETH, Inc.) and ASEAN Association of Schools of Medical Technology (AASMT).

 

  1. OUR LADY OF FATIMA UNIVERSITY – QC –  77 examinees, 67 passers, 87.01% passing rate.

Also a member of the Our Lady of Fatima University system, OLFU-QC is an ISO-certified institution. The school takes pride in its state-of-the-art equipment such as 5-headed teaching microscopes, Sinnowa Electrolyte Analyzers, Gel Electrophoresis machines, and Digital Centrifuge machines.

 

  1. CENTRO ESCOLAR UNIVERSITY – MANILA – 58 examinees, 49 passers, 84.48% passing rate

CEU – Manila is recognized for its medical programs mainly because of its highest accreditation of Level IV from PACUCOA. The university’s complete laboratory facilities for Hematology, Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, Drug Testing, HIV and Hepatitis Screening, and Clinical Microscopy serve as an excellent training ground for its students. The school is also affiliated with CHED-accredited hospitals.

 

  1. CENTRO ESCOLAR UNIVERSITY – MAKATI – 60 examinees, 50 passers, 83.33% passing rate

MedTech students at CEU – Manila take rigid oral, written, and practical examinations through its Clinical Laboratory Practice (CLP) incorporated in the Medical Technology Laws and Ethics course. Students are also trained by faculty members that are certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists International (ASCPi) and American Medical Technologists (AMT).

 

  1. REMEDIOS T. ROMUALDEZ MEDICAL FOUNDATION – 63 examinees, 52 passers, 82.54% passing rate

Located in Tacloban City, RRMF is no stranger to board exam excellence. Throughout the years, the institution has produced a number of registered MedTech professionals including Alvin Aurelia Bahin who bested thousands of examinees in the 2018 MedTech board examinations garnering a rating of 90.50%.
