Contrary to what many people think, plumbing requires some serious skills. In fact, master plumbers have to pass an exam before earning their license.

What’s the Master Plumber exam?

The Master Plumber exam tests one’s knowledge about different materials, design, and installation techniques in plumbing. Moreover, the exam measures a test-taker’s understanding of plumbing codes and regulations in the country. The test ensures the quality of professionals who play the crucial role of designing and maintaining piping and drainage systems.

Who can take the Master Plumber exam?

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) allows non-degree holders to take the Master Plumber Exam. Such applicants would need to present proof of five years plumbing experience, along with a high school diploma or transcript of records.

Meanwhile, degree holders who take the Master Plumber exam come from courses such as Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Mining Engineering. If you’re planning to specialize as a Master Plumber, you will surely need a list of top-notch schools where you can refine your skills.

Here are the top performing schools (in no particular order) in the Master Plumber Licensure Exams from 2017 to 2019.

Take your pick!

Bicol University-Legazpi

In a span of 50 years, Bicol University has built seven campuses across the Bicol region. Its main campus is in the boundary of Daraga and Legazpi City in Albay. Its programs in Teaching, Fisheries Education, and Nursing were also recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) as Centers of Excellence and Development! Plus, it’s ISO 9001:2008 certified!

Camarines Norte State College- Daet

Established in 1992, CNSC believes in empowering the youth of Camarines Norte by providing them with quality, affordable education that will help them develop into future professionals. This college offers  specialized courses other than the Master Plumbing Course and a LOT of scholarships for its students as well!

Malayan Colleges Laguna

Also one of the frontrunners in the Master Plumber Exam is Malayan Colleges Laguna, a MAPUA school. Well, it’s not surprising for a college that received CHEd’s approval for its programs in Engineering, Information Technology and Business. The school also bagged the ABET seal of quality educationan award for educational institutions with programs that enable its graduates to meet international standards!

Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila

This university is known producing award-winning directors and scriptwriters throughout history, but it also maintains a tradition of excellence in licensure examinations like Engineering, Accountancy, Social Work, Medicine, Law, and recently in 2018, the Master Plumber board exam.

Did you know that PLM offers a tuition-free tertiary education, too?

University of Philippines Diliman

The last (but not the least) in our list is UP Diliman. UP is among the top 1000 universities in the world according to the World University Rankings. The university is also a proud member of the ASEAN University Network. What’s more, the school has consistently topped various board exams and is known for its notable alumni including senators, Supreme Court justices, and National Artists.

The plumbing industry is often under-appreciated for doing the “dirty work,” but we know it’s a life-saving profession that helps ensure our health and safety.

These schools have proven to provide quality education on Master Plumbing for the past few years and are definitely the best choices for those who aim to be a Master Plumber in the future!
