If people were asked to picture what the business industry is like, they would probably come up with images that come straight out of films like The Wolf of Wall Street and The Big Short. Business is its own exclusive and elitist world where money and power reign, and the other rules of everyday life don’t really apply. With this in mind, it is no surprise that many view entrepreneurship- and business-related courses as something that just does not apply to their daily lives.

In reality, however, the very core concept of business could not be further from this. A lot of business-related knowledge and skills are quite useful in everyday life, and can even help improve your performance at work, whether or not you actually own a business. Even better, you don’t need to graduate from college with a business degree to acquire these skills. There are many short and certificate courses available online that you can take and learn from without leaving your home.

Make sense of the numbers

Like it or not, we will all have to deal with finance during our adult lives. From taxes to bank statements, successfully “adulting” means knowing how to handle your money and all the necessary paperwork that comes with it. Hence, even though you might not be dealing with profits and losses of a business, you still have to take care of the most important financial statements of your life: your own.
