5 Davao Spots Where Students Can Unwind

“Davao: Life Is Here” as the city’s tagline goes. While this branding campaign was originally geared towards promoting the city to tourists and investors, the words reflected the city’s diverse people and rich cultural experiences.

But with the traffic congestion, occasional bad weather conditions, and mountain of schoolwork, it can feel like life is not always in Davao for a student. Some students in Davao would probably revise the tagline to “Davao: Stress Is Here.”

If the stress is overwhelming, it’s important to take a break once in a while and have fun. Aside from relieving yourself of the deadlines, de-stressing allows you to make beautiful memories with your friends and classmates outside school.

Here’s a list of Davao spots where students can unwind:

1. Museo Dabawenyo

If you want to do something educational as an excuse not to do your acads, free yourself of the guilt and visit this city-owned museum (meaning free entrance passes!). This Davao spot will surely help you learn about Davao’s rich culture.

Well, the dogs also have a special place in Davao City. Pawsome Dog Cafe is home to more than 30 dogs who were either adopted and rescued. The place has two areas: the cafe and the play area. Before you can get into the play area, you have to order a drink from the menu, which serves as your entrance pass.

You can also bring your own dog! If you have any plans to visit the cafe with your dog, visit their Facebook page to know more.

4. Eden Nature Park

When you’re looking for a nature experience and fun adventure, there’s no stopping you from going on a one-hour drive to escape the hustle and bustle of downtown Davao. With its vast garden of trees, flowers, herbs, and organic vegetables (plus adventurous activities!), this nature park is an ideal location for students who want to unwind.

5.  Roxas Night Market

Most students in Davao City enjoy a good and cheap food trip. And among the many places in the city, the night market is the ultimate food trip destination for students who want to eat their academic worries away.

At 6 PM, the night market comes to life, ready to cater to the grumbling stomachs of students who forgot to take their lunch. If you’re planning to visit the night market, take note: backpacks are strictly not allowed, because of security measures.

Yes! Davao stress is real, but the traffic and transport system are macro problems you can’t easily solve on your own. What you do have control over is managing your stress. So always remember to take a breather; taking the time for some fun can be good for your health. And when you feel good, you’ll be ready to take on the struggles of student life. More than the academic recognition, it’s important to also take good care of your mental health and well-being.
