CHED, Edukasyon.ph Announce Partnership for Online Scholarship Platform

The Commission of Higher Education (CHED) and education technology social enterprise Edukasyon.ph have announced the opening of an online platform for scholarships under the CHED K to 12 Transition Program for the school year 2016-2017.

Under the program, higher education faculty and staff may be nominated for CHED-funded scholarships for masters or doctoral degrees. With the recently signed partnership between CHED and Edukasyon.ph, nominations may now be done online at www.edukasyon.ph/ched.

The scholarship covers full tuition and fees, stipend, books, and transportation allowance, insurance, and funding for thesis or dissertation writing, at rates higher than the older CHED Faculty Development Program.

Need for more graduate degrees

According to CHED, only 50 percent of all HEI faculty in the country currently hold graduate degrees, while Vietnam and Malaysia hold 60 and 69 percent, respectively.

The CHED K to 12 Transition Program effectively utilizes the period of low enrollment anticipated in the higher education sector due to the full implementation of K to 12 in order to provide opportunities for HEIs and their personnel to earn higher qualifications through scholarships and other grants. A total of 15,000 scholarship slots will be given away, raising the number of graduate degree holders among HEI faculty to 70 percent by 2021.

“The main constraints that prevent faculty from completing further studies include heavy teaching loads, being recalled by their home institutions, and low stipend rates. But now, with the transition to K to 12, they are virtually free of these constraints. The government is meeting that opportunity with an increased investment in scholarships and other grants,” said CHED Commissioner Ma. Cynthia Rose Bautista.

In addition to online nominations, the Edukasyon.ph platform also allows scholars to directly send applications to their preferred schools, from among hundreds of CHED-authorized delivering higher education institutions (DHEIs) all over the country, with just a few clicks.

“We want to provide choices and convenience for college faculty and staff. Through this system, the selection and application system becomes easier and faster for qualified faculty,” said Henry Motte-Muñoz, Founder, Edukasyon.ph.
