Over 3,000 grade 10 and 12 students attended the education fair in Davao City last November 20 and 21, 2017 at SMX Convention Center in SM Lanang Premiere. Edukasyon.ph spearheaded the overall implementation of the event in partnership with the local government unit of Davao City and Department of Education, Region XI.
Edukasyon.ph is a social enterprise that aims to help address the challenges in the education sector by promoting career awareness and connecting students to educational opportunities both in public and private schools through its online platform supplementing these endeavors by conducting city-wide career clinics, school expos and engagement talks around the country.
Hosting the education fair in Davao City — being the biggest area in the Mindanao region — was delightfully successful. There were thousands of student and teacher attendees. A total of 12 private universities and public schools joined as exhibitors and decorated their respective booths with pride. 8 prominent speakers from the locality magnified the program with engaging real-life stories of their failures, successes, and learnings throughout their career. Lastly, numerous acts and performances from the audience gave life and entertainment to the fair.
The plenary session is the foremost section of the event. Guest speakers expressed why passion, skills, creativity, and innovation drive the future of the 21st century, discussed ways on how to think like an entrepreneur and to better prepare for future careers and employment opportunities. They also gave out pointers on resume writing and job interview pointers.
Ralph Layco, Macho Mucho founder and marketing expert, shared his experiences in starting a business to inspire young local students in the region. “Being an entrepreneur is like finding your true love. You give it your all, but it doesn’t work out sometimes. You significantly invest time and effort, turns out it is simply not the one for you. Do not be miserable. Even if you get your heartbroken, have the courage to start again.”
The second part of the program is discovery and application where student participants have the privilege to roam around the booths and inquire regarding program offerings, tuition fees, application process, and requirements. Prestigious schools like Ateneo de Davao University, Brokenshire College, and the newest player in the arena Malayan Colleges Mindanao, were among the exhibitors of the expo.
Certainly, the Davao City Senior High School Education Fair set a benchmark of triumph in amplifying educational opportunities and increasing career awareness. For students and schools who missed it last year, worry not because Edukasyon.ph will invade Davao City once again in July 2018. See you all there!
