Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones congratulated the first batch of Senior High School (SHS) graduates and conveyed her high hopes for them to help create a better, happier and more hopeful country whatever their chosen path may be – higher education, employment, entrepreneurship, or middle-level skills development.
Briones mentioned this during the First Joint SHS Graduation Exercises of Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School and Maria Clara L. Lobregat National Senior High School held last April 10 at the Zamboanga City Coliseum where around 700 SHS students graduated.
“Go out into the world and be good citizens of this country. We look forward to the time you’ll create a better world for your fellow Filipinos, especially for those who are not wearing their togas the way you are wearing yours today. Go with all our hopes and love,” Briones said.
She also reminded the students of the greater responsibility that awaits them, “You have fought a good fight in Senior High School, but another fight lies ahead of you… But I’m very confident that we have equipped you with skills and knowledge that you can use in facing the world outside, the world of work, or the world of the academics.”
Briones also attended the Alternative Learning System (ALS) Graduation for Accreditation and Equivalency Test (A&E) Elementary Passers and Moving-Up Ceremony for A&E Junior High School Passers of Zamboanga City and Isabela City Divisions, held in the afternoon of the same day and was attended by approximately 140 ALS completers and passers.
“You have the right to ask and demand for quality education. Whatever your age is, whatever your gender is, whatever your choice of lifestyle is, you are entitled to quality education. You will not be left behind,” she said.
Also present at these events were Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Service (PAS) and ALS G.H. Ambat, DepEd-IX Regional Director Isabelita Borres, Zamboanga City First District Representative Celso Lobregat, and other DepEd and City officials.
Ambat also attended the Moving-Up Ceremony of 48 ALS JHS completers and passers last April 11 at the Medium Security Compound of the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City where she delivered an inspirational message and congratulated the completers and passers for surpassing this phase despite the circumstances they are in.
