Edukasyon.ph launches OFW-Parent Friendly College and Scholarship Portal

Education start-up Edukasyon.ph has launched an College and Scholarship Portal where students and parents working abroad can search courses, schools, and scholarships all over the Philippines for free.

“Limited career orientation, expensive tuition fees, and lack of knowledge on where to search for educational opportunities are some of the key problems that high schools students and individuals seeking to expand their education and professional development are encountering in choosing the right course and university. Students need help in finding the educational opportunity that will fit their interests, budget, and desired location,” said Edukasyon.ph Chief Executive Officer Ms. Linartes Viloria.

According to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), a total of 1.6 million Filipinos were deployed for overseas employment in 2014.  Majority of the deployed (79% or 1.3 million) were land-based workers while the remaining (22% or 353,898) were sea-based workers.

“Distance is no longer a problem for parents when looking for schools and scholarships for their children left behind in the Philippines. Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) parents can now participate in the college search of their children via Edukasyon.ph, where they can find various courses and colleges all over the Philippines,” Viloria added.

No longer Left Behind

In a survey conducted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, education counts as among the top priorities of OFW families. More than two-thirds (70%) of the OFW households allocated part of their remittances for education.

“We understand how difficult it is for our OFW parents to participate in the education planning of their children especially when they are miles away from them. Through Edukasyon.ph we give them an online and FREE way to find all the possible schools and courses offered which they can advise their children to take based on their interests, budget, and location,” said Viloria.

Currently, on beta, the website boasts of more than 3,000 schools, 30,000 courses, and 2,000 scholarships which are offered all over the Philippines.

“There are so many opportunities for education out there that a lot of our students and parents are unaware of. And these include scholarships they can avail of in the different universities. We want to share this information to our parents whatever part of the world they are in,” said Viloria.

Quick Sign Up

Students and parents can easily find schools and scholarships just by logging on at www.edukasyon.ph and registering to get a listing of universities, courses, and scholarships updates that correspond to their interests. Parents can add their children to register, so they can guide them in their applications.

“By giving parents a complete picture of what is available for them, they are advised on the different options they can give their kids vis-a-vis the careers their children aspire for. They no longer feel helpless from where they are in their child’s education.  They are now empowered with opportunities that will help their children achieve success for the careers they aspire for,” said Viloria.

Edukasyon.ph was established by French-Filipino Henry Motte-Muñoz in 2013. A graduate of the London School of Economics and Harvard Business School, Henry was inspired to launch an education website in the Philippines because of the poor source of information on academic opportunities in the country and overseas. He is the only Filipino who made it to the Class of 2015 Asia 21 Young Leaders, the finest network of young leaders from across the Asia Pacific, representing the private, public, and non-profit sectors.
