Ever thought of using your athletic talent as a means to fund your education—in your dream school, no less?

An athletic scholarship (aka sports scholarship) is a grant made to support a student’s education based on his or her ability to play a sport. This scholarship awards the student-athlete a partial or full discount on tuition fee for one year at a college, university or private high school.

Talent will only take you so far, and you can’t just wait to be discovered. It’s going to require a little more effort on your part to seek out the right athletic scholarship for you.

Here’s a list of 6 notable universities offering athletic scholarships to get you started:

1. University of Asia and the Pacific

UA&P offers great facilities: a sports building, library, computer laboratory, and audio-visual rooms. Student athletes have a wide range of sports clubs and teams to choose from such as volleyball, basketball, tennis, handball, swimming, badminton, taekwondo, aikido, karate and table tennis.

The university is best known for its strong foundational liberal education program. Students get professional training in their last two years of study.

UP Diliman, also known as the UP System, competes in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) each year and the UP Pep Squad has stood out and won championships in the collegiate competition.

Students can apply to the varsity teams by contacting the coaches and submitting all indicated requirements.
