‘Kumbati,’ – the Visayan word for ‘fight.’
For Lifebank Foundation scholar, Mary Joy Dubria, this is all you have to do. Life is full of challenges and hardships, all you need to do is fight.
At a young age, Joy already learned to accept the harsh realities of life, especially after her father suffered from a mild stroke. But that didn’t stop her from reaching for her dreams. She strived to do well in school and help her family in every way she can.
Now, Joy is a proud graduate of Bukidnon State University with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. She plans to take an internship in the U.S and work on a cruise ship if given a chance.
Even before getting a scholarship during her first year in college, she already showed determination by maintaining good grades throughout high school. In college, she excelled in both academics and extracurricular activities. She was a consistent dean’s lister and an active student leader, holding a leadership position in a youth entrepreneurship organization.
“If you are a scholar, you need to know your priorities. You have to manage your time,” she shared.
