The Christmas vacation is just around the corner. In a few days, the festivities starts and it will seem like it’s raining food. Add to that the fact that there is no school, everyone tends to oversleep, overeat, and become a couch potato. Don’t let that happen to you! Here are a few simple exercises that will help you burn all those calories you’ll be eating soon.
Skipping is considered to be one of the best cardio workouts and is amazing in calorie burning. An hour’s worth of skipping can burn up to 1300 calories. If you’re a beginner, you can start with 10-minute skipping sessions alternating between various skipping techniques such as double jumps, slalom, single leg and criss-cross jumps. If you are looking to lose weight, 20-30 minutes should do the trick.
This one is probably not the fave of many, but if done right, it could serve as a great workout for your core and also helps in building balance and posture. You may start by holding a plank for about 20-30 seconds, with three to five repeats. However, your ultimate goal should be to hold on for about one and a half minutes.
3. Do the Squat
The good old squats help you build you leg muscles and is a guaranteed way to achieve that dream butt. If you are a beginner, make sure you keep your feet parallel, slightly wider than shoulder width apart. Repeat about 20 times and about 3-4 sets.
4. Stomach crunches / Sit-ups
While crunches exercise the abdominal muscles, sit-ups involve abdominal and other muscles in the chest, neck and lower back. Two to four sets of 10 to 25 repetitions (no less than twice weekly) for both exercises is sufficient to strengthen muscles.
5. Dance workouts
Finally, for those of you whose middle name is “lazy”, dance workouts are the new in thing. With dance fitness routines such as Zumba becoming more popular, you would find that it’s hard to keep away from dancing once you get used to it. Happy holidays!
