There’s a diversity to the SHS General Academic Strand that you won’t get in any other strand. You can choose electives from STEM, ABM, and HUMSS, meaning you can learn just about anything you put your mind to! So it’s a bit unfair that GAS is labeled indecisive. In fact, your options put you at an advantage. And these TED Talks pretty much cement that idea.
Right now, you might want to ask yourself: How do I make the right decisions given what I know? What’s the best way to hack into productivity and learning?
Here are some TED Talks to change your life, challenge your perspective, and get you through any kind of senior year slump.
Why some of us don’t have one true calling – Emilie Wapnick
Do you ever feel limited when people ask you what you want to be when you grow up? Don’t be. You might be a multipotentialite. Pursue those many passions and find their intersections.
Smash Fear, Learn Anything – Jim Ferris
Our potential is limitless. We can learn everything. It’s actually our fear that holds us back from becoming our best selves. Here’s some motivation to get you to master anything!
How to Make Hard Choices – Ruth Chang
What course do I take? How about my career? Choosing who you want to be or where you want to go is difficult. Why? Because no choice is better than the other. Luckily for you, this talk hacks into that mindset.
How to get better at the things you care about – Eduardo Brileño
To be productive, we must alternate between two zones: the learning zone and the performance zone. See, the problem with school is that we see it as a place to perform and not to learn. It’s in understanding this that we can reach our full purpose. PS: he uses Beyoncé as an example.
The nerd’s guide to learning everything online – John Green
In his novels, he makes you feel all the feels, and sometimes kills off characters. On YouTube? John Green is a proud nerd. Discover why finding a community of learners makes a huge difference in the way you appreciate learning.
Get inspired and find yourself! We hope you have fun watching these videos and learn more about learning. Maybe they made you realize why it’s okay not to have a rock-solid plan yet. Sometimes, it’s the journey that matters more than the destination.
