Org Spotlight: Erasmus Student Network of MENDELU

Student associations or organizations are vital to the DNA of every university. These groups provide an avenue for students to associate themselves to a cause or group in fulfilling their potential. Mendel University in Brno supports a handful of student associations such as the Erasmus Student Network.

Erasmus Student Network

Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is one of the biggest student associations in Europe. Founded in 1989, it was born to support and develop student exchange. The organization is also co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. ESN is present in more than 900 institutions in 60 countries, with more than 15,000 active members.

The association is also present in MendelU. All full-time Mendel University students, whether Czech or foreign citizens, are welcome to participate in the semester-long Erasmus exchange programs. MendelU Erasmus students can get to study in any of the EU partner universities.

ESN MENDELU

Erasmus Student Network of Mendel University (formerly ISC MENDELU) is a non-profit association run by volunteers. Since its establishment in 2007, they take care of incoming foreign students who come to Mendel University under various exchange programmes from all over the world. The members are a union of students from all faculties of Mendel University. ESN MENDELU also cooperates with the International Relations Department of Mendel University.

Members of ESN MENDELU provide help with everyday problems and needs exchange students may have before, during and after their arrival to Brno. The organization aims to make their stay in a new environment more enjoyable, show them the ways around the city, and assist them with all necessary errands. Moreover, ESN MENDELU is not just a club for Erasmus students; it is also open to all foreign students at the university.

Throughout the semester, they organize various cultural, sport, and social events targeted at both Czech and foreign students aiming to integrate newcomers into the university life. Also, they offer them meaningful use of leisure time as well as to highlight the presence of foreign students to locals and to promote exchange programmes (eg. Erasmus+ programme, Bilateral agreements).

ESN MENDELU is part of ESN CZ and ESN International.
