  1. Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Program

Brief description:

The ADB-Japan Scholarship program gives students and professionals from member developing countries (including the Philippines!) the opportunity to take graduate studies in the Asia and Pacific region. Upon completion, students are expected to go back to their home countries and contribute to its development.

Field(s) of study:

Graduate programs in development-related fields, including economics, management, science and technology, and the like.

Host Institution(s):

In order to be awarded with the scholarship, the student must first be admitted into one of the participating schools. The schools are located all over the Asia and Pacific region, including Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and USA.

Eligibility:

Prospective students should be 35 years old or younger, in good health, holding a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and with excellent academic standing.

Application requirements/instructions:

Applications for the ADB-Japan scholarship is done when applying to the desired university/institution. The prospective student must submit their school application form, ADP-Japan Scholarship application form, and other documents required by the university in question. Each participating institution has their own deadlines for applications and intake.

  1. Study in France: PhilFrance Scholarships

Brief description:

The PhilFrance Scholarships are awarded to Filipinos who have a strong academic and leadership record who want to take up graduate studies or go on exchange in France.

Field or level of study:

Graduate programs and exchange programs

Host Institution(s):

Any university in France offering graduate programs are covered. As for those applying for exchange programs, there must be a student exchange agreement between the French university and the Philippine university you want to apply to.

  • monthly allowances
  • medical packages

Eligibility:

This scholarship is strictly for Filipino students currently residing in the Philippines.

If you want to take your Masters in France, then you must be taking your last year or have taken your undergraduate studies in a Filipino university. Similarly, if you want to take your PhD in France, then you must be graduating or have graduated from a Filipino university.

As mentioned, those who want to take go on undergraduate exchange in France must be enrolled in a Filipino university that has an existing exchange agreement with a French university.

Application requirements/instructions:

  • One-page CV
  • A 500-word letter of intent that also discusses what you will be able to contribute to Filipino society if you were accepted into the program
  • Academic transcripts
  • Letters of acceptance or proof of application to a French institution/university
  • Proof of household income (i.e. most recent tax return)

  1. Study in Australia through Australia Awards Program

Brief description:

The Australia Awards Scholarships are offered to students who show the potential to become the next generation of global leaders for development. The scholarship aims to impart on its recipients the skills and knowledge to drive change and build links with Australia. This is in accordance with the Australia-Philippines development cooperation program, providing Filipino development leaders the opportunity to study at Australia’s premier institutions and eventually return to the Philippines to lead its developmental charge.

Field or level of study:

Postgraduate: Master’s and PHD

Preferred fields of study include:

  • Trade and Economics
  • Local Economic Development
  • Infrastructure
  • Peace and Development
  • Governance
  • Basic Education
  • Foreign Relations
  • Organisation Development /Human Resource Management and Development
  • Mining and Mining-Related Fields

Host Institution(s):

Any participating university in Australia that holds postgraduate studies

Scholarship coverage:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Return air travel
  • Contribution to living expenses
  • One off establishment allowance on arrival
  • Introductory academic program and Supplementary academic support
  • Overseas Student Health Cover
  • Fieldwork allowance
  • Scholarships are are valued at up to AU$300,000 for a 4-year PhD and up to AU$ 200,000 for a master’s degree

Eligibility:

A prospective applicant must be a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree, possessing at least 2 years work experience (on the job training or internships not included), and have achieved a satisfactory English proficiency result. One must be a Filipino citizen not residing in Australia and not married/engaged to a person holding Australian citizenship or permanent residence status.

  7. Completed Re-Entry Action Plan (REAP) Form downloadable from the Australia Awards application site

Applicants from the government sector must additionally submit an Endorsement of Scholarship Application issued by the Head of their Agency and a Certificate of No Pending Administrative Case issued by the Ombudsman and the respective agency.

Applicants for a PhD Program / Masters by Research must additionally submit a research proposal, Referee Reports from 2 previous Academic Supervisors, preferably on the area of research, publications, and an Endorsement Letter from an Australian Research Supervisor.

Following the submission of the application, it will be reviewed and assessed. Based on the ranking of the applicant out of the pool of eligible candidates, one may or may not be selected for a panel interview, after which, results will be released.

Special consideration will be accorded to people with disability and those directly working with PWD recognized organisations.

  1. Study in New Zealand with the New Zealand ASEAN Scholarship

Brief description:

The New Zealand ASEAN Scholarships (NZAS) aim to provide individuals from Southeast Asia the means, through knowledge, skills and qualifications, to improve the social, economic and political development of their home countries, stemming from the strong ties New Zealand has with Southeast Asia.

Field or level of study:

This scholarship covers postgraduate studies, with priority sectors including Agriculture, Renewable energy, Disaster risk management, Public sector management and Private sector development.

Host Institution(s):

This scholarship is offered for some of New Zealand’s best academic institutions, including Auckland University of Technology, the University of Auckland, Lincoln University, and more.

Scholarship coverage:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Partial living allowance and Establishment allowance
  • Medical and travel insurance
  • Travel to and from home country (start and end of scholarship only)
  • Assistance with research and thesis costs

Eligibility:

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age by December 31 of the year of application, a citizen of the Philippines who has lived in it for the last two years and with the intention of returning to it for a minimum of two years at the end of the scholarship to contribute to its development. Applicants must be of good academic standing and must possess at least one year full time (or two year’s part time) work experience relevant to their career.

  1. Complete the Online Eligibility Test to confirm eligibility.
  2. Register with New Zealand Scholarships online and create application account
  3. Complete application on the given dates
  4. If the applicant is shortlisted, provide:
    1. One of the ff: passport, birth certificate or other government issued ID
    2. Academic transcripts and completion certificates
    3. Contact details of most recent employer and two other most relevant employers
    4. Non-verified copy of an IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) or an original copy of a TOEFL test result form, completed in the last 24 months

  1. Study in the US with a Fulbright scholarship

Brief description:

The Fulbright scholarship, one of the most prestigious scholarships of the world, gives excellent students the opportunity to study in select US schools through merit-based grants. Its aim, as established by Senator J. William Fulbright in 1946, is to promote mutual understanding and cooperation between people of the US and other countries.

Field or level of study:

  • Graduate: Master’s or Doctoral studies
  • Non-degree doctoral enrichment or doctoral dissertation research
  • Priority sectors for the scholarship include Study of the United States, Global issues, Open grants.

US schools offering graduate programs

Scholarship coverage:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Books and supplies allowance
  • Monthly maintenance allowance
  • Round trip international travel
  • Health and accident insurance

Eligibility:

  • Be a citizen of the Philippines and no older than 40 years of age at the time of application, and be in good health.
  • Possess a college degree with major in field of specialization and be of excellent academic standing and must possess at least two years of professional work experience in their field of specialization.
  • Be proficient in English and return to the Philippines at the time of completion of their scholarship.

  • Transcript of records from all colleges/universities attended
  • Certified true copy of diploma
  • 4 letters of reference
  • Completed 8-page application form
  • NBI Clearance acquired in the past 6 months

Grantees are expected to begin their studies in the U.S. late August or early September of 2018.
