On April 22, Emi Yoshikawa stood on the final stage of the Miss Mandarin Japan Contest 2018 organized by the Japanese & Mandarin Union (JMU). The third-year Waseda University student at the School of International Liberal Studies (SILS) took home the winning title after giving a speech in Mandarin while competing with eight other finalists. Because of this, she will act as the friendship ambassador between Japan and China as a sign of goodwill.
Despite this, Emi says she doesn’t want to be the “bridge of Japan and China.” She feels that that title is overused and cliche. She wants to be more than just a connection to new opportunities; she wants to be solutions-oriented.
