In lay man’s terms, a vocation is that certain professional path that pulls you in like gravity. When you go to vocational schools, you have the chance to sharpen your skills. You get on the path that leads you to your dreams. You keep yourself inspired to get better at what you love, every day.
How are vocational courses different from academic courses?
The difference between a vocational course and an academic course is where the focus is directed. Academic courses give you an overview of all possible subjects that may be related to the industry you want to be a part of. For example, taking up business management means also learning accounting, finance, and English. Academic courses teach you a little bit of everything, unlike when you are enrolled at vocational schools.
A vocational course, on the other hand, focuses on a specific role. For instance, you want to focus on film making, or on woodworking, or on culinary arts. To fulfill all these roles, you are required to have a certain skill level, and that’s what vocational courses are for.
If there’s one thing that sets the two apart, it’s that vocational courses are set in a real-world environment to simulate what actually happens on the job. It’s hands-on and quite technical as opposed to theoretical.
Where can your vocation take you?
Think of all careers that are skill-specific! Various vocational schools train students for positions in office management, automotive repair, food and beverage, just to name a few!
