We Created a Midterms Season Battle Plan So You Don’t Have To

Midterms season has got to be the most stressful time during the semester. Compared to finals week, midterms are usually spread out over two weeks, depending on what and where you study. It’s important to have a plan of attack when things get tough. So here’s a handy one you can get behind!

Plan ahead

Everyone tells you to time block, schedule, and plan ahead. You might be tired of hearing this, but it’s definitely true! Planning ahead helps you realize how much material you have to study. It doesn’t have to be an extremely elaborate schedule. Simply designating which days to study for a specific subject is already one step forward!

If you’re into getting more organized, time block your day. Unlike scheduling study days, time blocking requires you to be more specific about what you plan to finish on a specific slot.

Of course, planning is useless if you don’t follow through!

Do what works for you

Everyone swears by writing down notes by hand. Although it does have scientific data to back it up, it’s not for everyone. If taking down notes by hand is too time-consuming for you, you can opt to use your laptop or study from the textbook.

At the end of the day, it’s about what works for you, not what works for most people. It could be summary sheets, flashcards, crash course videos, or even diagrams! Study habits and tricks are definitely unique to every student.

Watch your health

Getting sick during midterms season happens to almost everyone. Which is why you should watch your health a bit more than usual. You can easily catch a cold from a schoolmate! Make sure not to skip meals. Sneak in a healthy snack or two, and maybe go easy on the instant noodles! Drink as much water as you can—it’s absolutely healthier than coffee.

Be kind to yourself this midterms season

We have the tendency to push ourselves too much, especially during hell weeks. However, we must always remember to be kind to ourselves. Rest when you are tired. Don’t beat yourself up for making mistakes. It’s normal. This is all part of the learning experience. Go put on a face mask, watch your favorite TV show, and wish for the best. You have done your best and that is enough.
