Criminology is one of the most popular courses in the Philippines and is a degree that primarily deals with preventing and solving crimes, and preserving peace in the community. It is a four-year degree program that links to a number of fields such as criminal law, sociology, psychiatry, psychology, or anthropology just to name a few. Criminology is a dynamic and fascinating course that involves real-life skills like Ballistics, Forensic Science, Legal Medicine, and Law Enforcement Administration as some of its core disciplines. Students need to pass the Criminology Licensure Examination first before they can practice their profession like being a police officer.

Top Schools of Criminology in the Country

1. University of the Cordilleras

A consistent leading school in the Criminology board exam performance rankings, University of the Cordilleras’ College of Criminal Justice Education is designated as a Center of Excellence by the Commission on Higher Education. In the April 2013 board, UC proved its excellence as a powerhouse in the field with its 100% passing rate with 9 topnotchers (1st place, 2nd place, 3rd place, 4th place, 5th place, 7th place, two 9th placers, and 10th place).

2. Lipa City Colleges

Established in 1947, the Lipa City Colleges is one of the leading education institutions in Batangas. Over the years, it continues to produce board passers in various professions. The school is recognized by CHED and the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA). Since 2004, the college has continued to hone competitive graduates and rank high in the overall licensure board passing rates. LCC is second best performing school with 92.98% (April 2015), 91.94% (April 2016), and 91.18% (June 2017).

3. University of Baguio

The University of Baguio is known for its excellence in Teacher Education and Criminology, having recognized by CHED as a Center of Excellence. Its School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety has received a Level III status from PACUCOA. Since 1988, UB has produced 74 board topnotchers and thousands of passers.

4. King’s College of the Philippines

The King’s College of the Philippines is located in La Trinidad, Benguet offering a range of courses in Theology, Office Administration, Web Technology, Marketing Management, Accountancy, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Technical Teacher Education, Elementary Education, Network Technology, and Criminal Justice Education. The institution ranked 2nd place in the top performing schools in the October 2015 and October 2016 board with 91.07% and 88.57% passing rates respectively.

5. Southern Leyte State University – Sogod

A premier university in Leyte, SLSU provides bachelor’s degree in various disciplines such as computer studies, teacher education, aquatic and applied life sciences, agriculture, business, arts and sciences, and criminal justice. The university’s Sogod campus ranked 3rd in the Criminology Licensure Board overall performance ranking with 90%.

6. Ifugao State University – Lamut

Each year, Ifugao State University belongs in the list of schools with the highest number of passers released by the Professional Regulation Commission. It offers undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as associate courses in Criminology. IFSU’s programs are accredited by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP). It has international linkages to other universities all over the world that allows the school to send students abroad as well accept foreign students to study in the country via exchange programs.

7. Tarlac State University

Tarlac State University dominates thousands of universities and colleges in the December 2017 board with a 100% passing rate for first-time takers and 98.21% overall passing rate (1st place). TSU is a distinguished member of the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP), the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC), and the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP).

8. Data Center College of the Philippines – Laoag City

The Data Center College of the Philippines is a network of higher education institutions composed of four independent colleges that are recognized by CHED and TESDA. In the October 2016 board, it is one of the only 6 schools in the country to be included in the list of top performing schools in Criminology Licensure Examination with an 80.28% passing rate. It ranked 5th on the December 2017 exam with 80.88%.

9. Cavite State University

Established in 1906, Cavite State University has 12 campuses all spread across the different areas of the province. It is recognized by AACCUP and ranked 7th in the Quality Service Award Top Ranking for State Universities and Colleges (SUCs). The university is among the five schools in the country with an exceptional national passing rate in the December 2017 Criminology Licensure Exam (3rd, 94.67%)

10. University of Manila

The University of Manila is a private university that provides courses in Business Administration, Liberal Arts, Education, Foreign Service, Engineering, and Law. The school’s College of Criminology and Police Science was opened in 1963 and has the most number of students. It secured a 4th place in the April 2015 CLE (81%) and 5th in October 2015 CLE (82.52%).
