7 NCR Schools In The SCUAA To Cheer For
College won’t be complete without sports (and school rivalry IYKWIM).
We LOVE it! And when it comes to interschool competitions, students are NOT one to back out from showing their campus pride loud and proud! *cue school cheer*
In the world of college sports, there’s what they call the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA). Simply put, it’s one of the inter-collegiate sports associations in the country for state colleges and universities. While it has 93 members all over the country, it has seven participating schools in NCR alone. Do you know which schools are those?
Get your pom-poms ready and cheer for the seven state colleges and universities represented in the SCUAA-NCR:
1. Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST)
Established in 1945, EARIST is a state college located in Manila (and Cavite!). With around 15,000 students and counting, the school prides itself with 14 degree programs that are accredited by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines(AACCUP). As an institute, it aims to empower students to thrive in the fields of trade, business, and technology education. Did we mention they have a distance learning program too? Yup, they do.
SCUAA Nickname: EARIST Red Fox
2. Marikina Polytechnic College (MPC)
True to its name, MPC provides learning opportunities for students to develop their skills in technical and vocational subjects. Since its establishment in 1947, the state college has curricular offerings from Senior High School (SHS) to Graduate Studies, even Technical-Vocational programs. If you’re looking for a school that’ll bring out the technopreneur in you, then MPC is the one!
SCUAA Nickname: MPC Gears
3. Philippine Normal University (PNU)
With over a century of academic presence (read: imagine being around since 1901!), PNU is one of the leading research universities in the country. It is home to a Center of Excellence (COE) in Teacher Education, and has proven expertise in the field being recognized as the National Center for Teacher Education. While Manila serves as its main campus, the university can also be found in four other campus hubs such as Quezon Province, Isabela, Negros Occidental, and Agusan del Sur.
PS. Did you know PNU’s nickname is Normal? (Is that cool or what)
SCUAA Nickname: PNU Torch Bearer
4. Philippine State College of Aeronautics (PhilSCA)
Do you want to fly high and reach your dreams? If you want to take it a lil’ more literal, then PhilSCA wants you on board! This state college is the first aviation school in the country to offer a masters and doctorate in aeronautical education and management and be accredited by the AACCUP. Talk about reaching for the skies! And as if it’s not enough to impress you, you should know that it’s also one of the top performing aeronautical engineering schools in the country.
SCUAA Nickname: PSCA Iron Eagle
5. Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP)
With over 70,000 students in population, PUP might as well claim to be the largest state university in the country. Established in 1904, this research university has more than 20 campuses and extensions across Luzon, and has proven its name in quality education standard with its CHED accreditations (they have COD in Filipinology!), QS Asia University Rankings, and continuous social impacts. Not to mention, a recent survey which says PUP graduates are employers’ top choice for hiring!
SCUAA Nickname: PUP Radicals
6. Rizal Technological University (RTU)
If you’re interested to pursue a career in architecture, engineering, and technology, then let RTU help you get there! This state university is one of the pioneers in the country’s higher education to offer an astronomy degree, and use a cooperative education curriculum. While enrolment spikes became a challenge at first, the school’s independence from the University of Rizal System (URS) in 1975 paid off with more than 30,000 students and counting who are being trained the RTU way. (Maybe they have a thing for making history.)
SCUAA Nickname: RTU Blue Thunder
7. Technological University of the Philippines (TUP)
Living out its motto as Haligi ng Bayan (Foundation of the Nation), TUP can be found in six key locations across the country—with campuses in Manila, Taguig, Cavite, Batangas, Quezon, and Visayas. (Makes it easy for you to find one near you!) This state university is recognized for its excellence in engineering and technology education. If you’re interested to pursue these fields, TUP has gotchu covered from undergrad right to your doctorate studies.
PS. Don’t worry, they’ve been around since 1901 so we can assume they’re experts in the field!
SCUAA Nickname: TUP Gray Hawks
EARIST, MPC, PNU, PhilSCA, PUP, RTU, TUP. Which one of these schools would cheer for in the SCUAA-NCR games? While cheering for all seven might be enough to make you lose your voice (for days), there are a hundred more SCUAA schools across the country you should know about. Now, that’s intense competition!
