How to Avoid Getting Sick During Finals
Don’t worry, you’re not the only one who falls into the trap of binge-eating and barely sleeping come finals week. With all the hustling that comes with it, it’s almost inevitable that a student’s health takes a step back. But how do you avoid getting sick?
Not to say that this is ideal, but think of it this way: The last two minutes of the game is when you need your star players the most! After all, you can’t get that win if you’re injured.
So here are 5 ways you can shield your immune system and power through finals week like a champ!
Take your daily dose of vitamin C.
Endurance is the name of the game. To outperform your competition, you have to outlast them. At this point your competition is yourself.
You’ve got goals and you’re coming at them full swing. So make sure you’re physically prepared for the final push. Take your daily dose of vitamin C to make sure your immune system is ready to hustle with you.
Vitamin C tablets are available over the counter, but make sure you don’t take them on an empty stomach to avoid acid reflux. However, the best way to get your daily dose is to eat colorfully. Meaning, choose fruits and veggies loaded with vitamin C!
Hydrate yo’ self.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Seriously. Especially during highly stressful moments, you should be getting enough water to keep going. Dehydration can lead to high levels of anxiety.
Keeping yourself hydrated not only keeps you sane but also keeps you from getting infections that lead to fever—and possibly even vomiting. If there’s one single thing that’s doable and helpful, it’s drinking a lot of water and turning it into a habit! The amount of water you need to stay hydrated depends on your BMI or body mass index. Know your recommended intake here.
Disinfect all the things—especially your phone!
Did you know that your mobile phone is 10 times dirtier than a toilet seat?! Think about all the surfaces you put it on and how many times it touches your face after. Yep, that’s a lot of germs!
Your phone’s a possible contributing factor to how and why your health is disrupted. Take a piece of wet wipes, or spray some anti-bacterial alcohol, and disinfect your mobile phone whenever you can.
To double in on cleanliness, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly and often, too! It’s better to keep yourself away from bacteria that can lead to infection than to battle it while you’re facing finals!
Get. Enough. Sleep.
I know you’re already thinking this sounds like a long shot. “How am I supposed to get enough sleep when I’m too busy studying?!” While it’s a challenge, it can be done.
It all boils down to discipline. It helps to plan your day and week in advance. Avoid procrastinating and schedule in tasks you want to accomplish every day. It’s all about pacing and time management! Work fast and work efficiently. Schedule sleep and set an alarm so you can stick to it.
When push comes to shove, take power naps! You’ll find that midday naps are so helpful, especially when you have a lot on your to-do list. To make sure your naps boost you up and not slow you down, keep them within the 10 to 20-minute range.
Stay active.
When you’re hustling, endorphins can be your new BFF! Keeping yourself active physically pushes your brainpower to keep moving as well. Staying active has a lot of benefits like focus, maximum productivity, better memory, and higher energy levels, which allows you to accomplish all your tasks efficiently.
Keeping these 5 things in mind will go a long way in helping you get through the hectic schedule during finals! Keep yourself productive and at your best throughout the whole academic year by reading more on our College Life articles at Edukasyon.ph.
